What is Amine Treated Bentonite?

Amine treated bentonite is an organophilic clay produced by modifying sodium montmorillonite with quaternary ammonium compounds. This surface treatment transforms hydrophilic clay into an organophilic material that readily disperses in organic solvents and polymer systems.

The amine treatment creates a clay structure that provides exceptional rheological control, thixotropic behavior, and suspension properties in low to high polarity organic systems.

Usage Guidelines Optimal Performance Recommendations

Proper activation and incorporation procedures ensure maximum performance from our amine treated bentonite products.

General Application Guidelines

Typical Dosage Range

0.5% - 3.0% by weight depending on application and desired rheological properties.

Polar Activator

Use 20-30% polar activator (acetone/water 95:5) by weight of organoclay for optimal activation.

Mixing Requirements

High-speed dispersion equipment recommended. Minimum 20 minutes mixing time for complete activation.

Temperature Control

Heat base system to 60-70°C before organoclay addition for improved dispersion.

Recommended Incorporation Process

1
Pre-heat Base System
Heat resin/oil to 60-70°C while stirring
2
Add Organoclay
Slowly add organoclay while maintaining high-speed mixing
3
Initial Dispersion
Mix for 5-10 minutes until uniform dispersion
4
Add Polar Activator
Introduce activator slowly while mixing
5
Complete Activation
Continue mixing for 25-30 minutes
6
Final Processing
Pass through colloid mill or homogenizer if required
