Usage Guidelines Optimal Incorporation Procedures

Follow these recommended procedures to achieve optimal performance and consistency when incorporating organoclay into your gravure ink formulations.

Incorporation Process

1

Pre-mixing Preparation

Add organoclay to a small portion of the solvent system with high-speed mixing to create a concentrated premix.

2

Polar Activator Addition

Add polar activator (methanol, ethanol, or acetone/water 95:5) at 30-40% of organoclay weight while mixing.

3

High-Shear Dispersion

Continue high-shear mixing for 15-20 minutes to ensure complete activation and dispersion of the organoclay.

4

Gradual Dilution

Slowly add the remaining ink components while maintaining agitation to achieve uniform distribution.

5

Final Processing

Pass through triple roll mill or bead mill for final dispersion and particle size reduction if required.

Recommended Dosages

Standard Gravure Inks 0.5 - 2.0%
High-Viscosity Systems 1.0 - 3.0%
Specialty Applications 2.0 - 4.0%
Polar Activator 30-40% of organoclay

Best Practices

Always add organoclay to liquid, never liquid to organoclay
Maintain temperature between 20-30°C during dispersion
Allow 24-48 hours aging for full rheological development
Test compatibility with all ink components before full-scale production
