What is Organic Clay? Modified Montmorillonite Rheology Modifier

Organic clay, also known as organoclay, organophilic clay, or organobentonite, is a high-efficiency rheological additive derived from sodium bentonite powder through organic modification. This modified montmorillonite serves as a premium viscosity control agent and thixotropic agent.

When incorporated into coatings, greases, adhesives, inks, or drilling fluid formulations, our organoclay provides exceptional anti-sagging properties, anti-settling performance, and consistent rheological characteristics across various solvent-based and oil-based systems.

CAMP-SHINNING's organic clay is specifically engineered for low-polarity, medium-polarity, and high-polarity solvents, making it the ideal suspending agent for diverse industrial applications.

How to Use Organic Clay Application Guidelines & Best Practices

Proper dispersion techniques ensure optimal performance of our organoclay rheology modifier in your formulations.

General Application Method

1

Pre-heat Base System

Heat the base oil or solvent system to 60-70°C if conditions permit for better dispersion.

2

Add Organoclay

Slowly add organoclay while stirring. Typical dosage: 0.5-3% for coatings, 7-10% for greases.

3

High-Shear Mixing

Use high-speed disperser or grinding machine for 5-10 minutes to ensure complete dispersion.

4

Add Polar Activator

For grease applications, add acetone/water (95/5) activator at 20-30% of organoclay weight.

Application-Specific Guidelines

Coatings & Paints

Dosage: 0.5-2.0%. Add during grinding stage for optimal dispersion. No polar activator required.

Drilling Fluids

Dosage: 0.5-3.0%. Pre-hydrate in base oil before adding to mud system. Compatible with diesel and synthetic oils.

Inks

Dosage: 1.0-3.0%. Add during early grinding stage. Excellent for preventing pigment settling.

Adhesives

Dosage: 1.0-4.0%. Incorporate during mixing stage. Improves sag resistance and application properties.

Cosmetics

Dosage: 1.0-5.0%. Use cosmetic grade only. Provides texture enhancement and stability.

Storage & Handling

Store in a dry, well-ventilated area at 0°C-30°C. Keep container closed. Quality guarantee period is 24 months. Available in 25kg kraft bags, 50lb bags, or customized packaging.
