Dosage & Usage Recommendations
Typical Addition Levels
Key Benefits in Varnish
- Prevents sagging on vertical surfaces
- Improves brushability and leveling
- Enhances storage stability
- Reduces settling of fillers and pigments
Dispersion Procedure
Pre-Dispersion
Add organoclay to the resin or solvent portion while stirring at moderate speed. Avoid adding directly to pigment paste.
High Shear Mixing
Apply high shear mixing for 5-10 minutes to ensure complete activation and dispersion of the organoclay.
Polar Activator
Add polar activator (methanol or ethanol) at 30-40% of organoclay weight for enhanced performance in some formulations.
Final Mixing
Add remaining ingredients and mix thoroughly. Allow adequate aging time for full rheological development (2-24 hours).
Important Notes
- • Temperature control: Keep below 60°C during dispersion
- • Avoid over-shearing which may reduce thixotropic properties
- • Test compatibility with other additives before full-scale production
